Homemade classic French beef recipe, with layers of amazing flavor. Beef Bourguignon is one of those recipes that sounds hard to make but this step-by-step recipe will show you jaw easy it is.

Ingredients

  • 4 Tbs 4 Olive oil

  • 500 Grams 500 Braising steak

  • 75 Grams 75 Streaky Bacon

  • 300 Grams 300 Shallot peeled left whole

  • 1 1 Large onion, diced

  • 2 2 Cloves garlic, grated

  • 550 Ml 550 Red wine

  • 150 ml 150 Beef stock

  • 2 tbsp 2 Tomato purée

  • 250 Grams 250 Baby button Mushrooms whole

  • 3 3 Bay leaf

  • 2 2 Sprigs thyme

  • 2 tbs 2 Corn flour

  • Salt

  • Pepper

Directions

  • Cut the beef into cubes and season with salt and pepper.
  • Heat oil in a large pan and fry the beef until browned. Add to your casserole dish.
  • Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in your pan and add bacon, shallots, onion, and garlic to your pan and fry until slightly browned then add to your casserole dish.
  • Add wine, beef stock, tomato puree, mushrooms, bay leaves, and thyme to your casserole dish.
  • Mix well and bring to a slow boil add the lid and place in the oven. 160 degrees or gas mark 3. for approximately 1h 20 mins.
  • After 50 mins add the corn flour mixture to thicken the sauce.

Notes

  • Slowly mix the two tablespoons of corn flour with 2 tablespoons of water until you get a runny paste, you will use this to thicken the sauce partway through cooking. Make sure there are no lumps.
  • If the beef is not tender return it to the oven.
  • Add baby potatoes and vegetables to serve.
